Indo-Jazz Fusion

In the late sixties the Indian instrument the sitar suddenly became the must play instrument. The interest in Indian music, instantly became in vogue when George Harrison of the Beatles started taking lessons with sitar virtuoso Ravi Shankar. Soon a plethora of pop tunes featured Indian instrumentation. Jazz was not to be isolated from this trend. Perhaps, the most famous example was the collaboration between Caribbean sax player Joe Harriott and Indian violinist John Mayer. This mix features some of these early fusion examples, but most of the music is fairly contemporary. So, relax your mind and float downstream to the sound of Indo-Jazz!
