Since the turn of the millennium, Japan has retained a large thriving jazz community. Some old school musicians concentrate on mainstream sounds, whilst others on be-bop derived formula. This mix, for the main part, concentrates on Japanese Nu jazz such as Osaka based quartet “Indigo Jam Unit”. This new club orientated genre tends to be a tight and energetic mix between a traditional jazz sound and dance music with distinctive beats and flowing jazz piano. Bands such as Soil & “Pimp” Sessions have build up an international following with an aggressive sound they call “death jazz”. If you want to hear my mix – please click on the image.
